What Happen if I Go Through a Cashless Toll Without an Easy Pass
All-Electronic Tolling
With AET, it's never been easier to travel the PA Turnpike. Two options. No cash. All hassle-free.
About All-Electronic Tolling
As part of an ongoing effort to modernize, The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) has implemented All-Electronic Tolling across the entire system.
E-ZPass
E-ZPass makes traveling the PA Turnpike even more convenient. As you drive through a Toll Point with an E-ZPass transponder, our toll equipment captures your trip information, calculates the toll, and deducts it from your E-ZPass pre-paid account balance. E-ZPass customers pay the lowest toll rate, up to 60% less.
Toll By Plate
Traveling on the PA Turnpike is now more convenient. You no longer have to stop at Toll Points. Our toll equipment will capture an image of your license plate as you drive through the Toll Point. An invoice will be mailed to the vehicle's registered owner.

What is All-Electronic Tolling?
All-Electronic Tolling FAQs
How do I pay if I don't have E-ZPass?
The PA Turnpike Commission's tolling system will take images of license plates of vehicles not equipped with a valid E‑ZPass transponder. A Toll By Plate (TBP) invoice will be mailed to the vehicle's registered owner. The TBP invoice will have a license plate image, travel information, and payment options.
How does All-Electronic Tolling (AET) work?
All-Electronic Tolling allows all customers to pay without stopping at Toll Points. Motorists no longer pay with cash on the roadway. All tolls are collected electronically while motorists travel at the posted speed. Motorists pay using E‑ZPass or PA Turnpike Toll By Plate (TBP), the PA Turnpike Commission's license plate tolling program.
How do I know that my personal information is secure when using E-ZPass or PA Turnpike Toll By Plate?
Motorists who opt to use PA Turnpike Toll By Plate will have the same privacy protections currently enjoyed by our E‑ZPass customers. The security of personal and financial information is of primary importance. The PA Turnpike Commission follows Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS). These standards require an annual compliance audit as well as periodic reviews of security policies and procedures, routine intrusion detection, and penetration testing of all systems.
My vehicle is registered in another state; will I be able to use the new All-Electronic Tolling system?
Yes. The PA Turnpike Commission's All-Electronic Tolling (AET) system will take images of all license plates regardless of the state registration that are not equipped with a valid E‑ZPass transponder. A Toll By Plate (TBP) invoice will be mailed to the vehicle's registered owner.
Why did the PA Turnpike implement All-Electronic Tolling?
All-Electronic Tolling (AET) is safer, quicker, more convenient for customers and better for the environment. AET is safer because customers no longer have to change lanes depending on their payment method. With AET, customers no longer have to stop at Toll Points reducing travel times and vehicle emissions. Finally, E‑ZPass usage represents over 80% of all PA Turnpike toll transactions system-wide.
